Plurals relay! This is all about plurals....

Practicing with plurals can be fun. To reinforce the spelling rules and learn how to use them, I have selected some great links which will help you practice and learn them and at the same time, have fun.
Plural or singular?
  • In general, you add "s"  or "es" to make the plural of nouns. Can you think of some examples to this rule? Think about it and open a "Word" document, write your name and the title: "Add 's' or 'es' ", then write the examples you found. Click on the link below and do the activity to test your knowledge. In your "Word" document record your results: Example: Exercise 1: 10.

  • Another rule indicates that words ending in a consonant and 'y', change ' y ' for an ' i ' and add 'es', like in cherry , which plural is cherries. Think of some examples, put them in your "Word" list. Click on the link below, do your best and record your result for Exercise 2.

  • There is also a rule about words ending in "f" and "fe". For these words, you need to change "f" for a "v" and add "es". For example: wife becomes wives, leaf becomes leaves. Think of your own examples. Add them to your list. Click on the links below and do the exercises 3 and 4. Record your result.

  •  There are some irregular plurals that do not fit in any of the previous rules. You need to memorize these words. For example, the plural of 'mouse' is 'mice' and the plural of "sheep" is "sheep"!!!


 To practice and learn these words, try the following exercises. Here are exercises 5 and 6. Do them and record your results. How good are you?

  •  How are you doing? I hope you are a plural experts by now!

Now, there is one more rule. Do you remember what to do with the words ending in "o"? You usually add "es" like in tomato - tomatoes.Think of your own examples and write them in your list. Then, try the exercise 7 and record your results!

The final challenge! I am sure you can do it. Try the last exercises which have mixed plurals and record your results. We will score your final grades and they will count for your computer lab grade this period.

When you have scored your results for your ten (10) exercises you will need to do the following:
1. Add up all the ten numbers you recorded in your "Word" document:
example: 8+9+10+10+7+8+9+9+8+10 = 88, then divide the result by 10: 88/10= 8.8 and that will be your final grade.

We'll begin with a box and the plural is boxes.
But the plural of ox should be oxen, not oxes. 

The one fowl is a goose but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.

But imagine the feminine she, shis and shim,  

So English, I fancy you will all agree,
Is the funniest language you ever did see.
