Present Continuous and Simple Present Practice

Hello everyone!

Remember that we are having a Language test on February 25th. and it is important that you practice using verb tenses -present continuous and simple present- as much as you can.

Present continuous tense is used to talk about actions in process in the present time, you talk about what you are doing in that moment. To form the present continuous you need (AM, IS, or ARE) +(ACTION VERB+ING). Here is a game to practice adding ING to some action verbs. You need to follow some spelling rules:

  1. Usually add "ing" to verbs: Play - playing; study- studying
  2. When a verb ends in silent "e", drop the "e" and add "ing": drive - driving; come - coming; take - taking.
  3. If a verb ends in consonant+vowel+consonant, double the last consonant: swim - swimming; dig - digging; put - putting; cut - cutting.

Remember! You need to open a Word document to record the results of all the exercises! Save your document with your names.

1. Now, try changing some verbs to the "ing" form by clicking on the letters. You need to spell the verbs correctly as fast as possible:

2. Complete the sentences correctly in the positive or affirmative form:
example: "He is playing guitar"

3. Now, play the same game to form negative sentences:

4. And finally, try making questions. Remember that the only thing you have to do is to move the "helping verb" (am, is, are) to the beginning of the sentence.

5. Now, complete the text using present continuous:

6. Here is some practice to complete sentences in the negative form (you will need to use the short form: isn't, aren't):

7. Then, practice changing sentences to question form:

8. And I am sure you will be able to escape the "HANGMAN"

9. Play "Snakes and Ladders". You will need to choose the correct form of the verb to complete sentences in simple present or present continuous form. Can you do it?

 10. Complete the sentences in the simple present tense. Remember you need to add "s" or "es" to the verb if the subject is He, She, or It.

Don't forget to register your results in a Word document!
