THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD

As you know, we will be participating in the school's "Science Fair" and it is an opportunity for you to develop some of your creativity and curiosity and put it in a scientific way to present it to the visitors to this important event. You may also learn a lot from the experience. The date of this important event is April 23rd, just after Easter Vacation. As you know, you have to work in teams and you may work either in a Geography or a Science project. Please don't forget that "Volcano eruptions" are not allowed. You have to try to be very original and creative.

To help you with this task, here is important information that you must know and use when planning your project:

What is Science?

In a simple way, we can say that Science is a process by which we have learned all the things we know about our world, about ourselves and other living and non living organisms, about the universe, things that are considered facts and that can be proved true for a long time. To do this, scientists need to follow some steps included in what is called the "Scientific Method".

The Scientific Method

The scientific method is a way of thinking and a way of organizing things and knowledge. It is a process based on a set of special rules. These rules help to guide a scientific investigation and they consider the possibility to continuosly test the scientific rules to check their validity and modify them, update them or even replace them when necessary.

The basic and most important steps of the "Scientific Method" include:

v  Make Some Casual Observations

v  Do Some Background Research

v  Form a Hypothesis That is Testable

v  Experiment to Test Your Hypothesis

v  Analyze Results & Draw Conclusions

Now you can sing a song to learn the steps of the "Scientific Method"

Read the information in the following link. When you finish reading, take the quiz on the scientific method at the end of the article, how much did you learn about it?

I will give you more information about the scientific method very soon....enjoy your work!
